DRIVING THE GREEN BOOK- by Alvin Hall

Join award-winning broadcaster Alvin Hall on a journey through America’s haunted racial past, with the legendary Green Book as your guide.

Recieving a resounding standing ovation at The People’s Film Festival,  Author Alvin Hall and filmmakers Mike De Caro and Saro Varjabedian continues to gain recognition for their documentary film and book , Driving the Green Book (2023, 40 min.).  It tells the story of how millions of Black travelers relied on The Negro Motorist Green Book, the definitive guide to businesses where they could safely rest, eat, or sleep, due to racial segregation during the years the Green Book was published (1936 – 1967).

The documentary film explores the recent journey that author Alvin Hall and his two young mentees Chrissy and Jaron travel across Long Island (NY) looking for locations once listed in The Negro Motorist Green Book, while also uncovering new subtle ways in which the issues continue today.

Driving the Green Book has been described as a vital work of national history as well as a hopeful chronicle of Black resilience and resistance.
