About

16 Years of Independent Film, Culture & Community

The People’s Film Festival (TPFF) is more than a film festival—it is a cultural movement, a platform for creative expression, and a catalyst for community engagement and economic growth in Harlem, New York.

Founded in 2012, TPFF celebrates Harlem as a living, breathing center of artistic innovation, cultural diversity, and creative possibility. We challenge the outdated narrative that the Harlem Renaissance belongs only to the past. Its spirit lives on through the voices, visions, and talents of today’s independent filmmakers, emerging artists, musicians, storytellers, and technologists.  Our mission is to preserve Harlem’s rich artistic legacy while boldly shaping its future—one film, one story, and one creative voice at a time.

OUR MISSION

The People’s Film Festival is committed to making independent cinema accessible while creating meaningful opportunities for filmmakers and creatives whose stories are often overlooked by mainstream platforms.  We provide a platform for independent filmmakers, filmmakers of color, women filmmakers, LGBTQ+ filmmakers, international storytellers, and emerging creative voices to showcase their work, connect with audiences, build professional relationships, and access new opportunities.  Through film, media, technology, music, and art, we encourage audiences of all ages to explore diverse perspectives, discover new ideas, and embrace the evolving possibilities of storytelling.

The People’s Film Festival is an initiative of The People’s Media, Music & Arts Foundation (TPMMAF) – a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. We use our platform to promote awareness of independent film, technology, media, music, and art across the globe while encouraging those, particularly in the Harlem New York area, to develop a greater appreciation and understanding of cultural diversity in media.
