TIC TOC BAN- What Does it Mean to You?

In January 2020, the United States Army and Navy banned TikTok on government devices after the Defense Department labeled it a security risk, citing concerns over potential access of data by the Chinese government. Other bans have cited children’s well-being and offensive content such as pornography.

Under the law, web hosting companies will also be barred from hosting TikTok. Users will continue to have access to TikTok if it’s already downloaded on their phones, but If the law goes into effect on Jan. 19, TikTok will disappear from Apple and Google’s app stores. Users will continue to have access to TikTok if it’s already downloaded on their phones, but new users won’t be able to download it. However, if you already have tic toc on your phone, it’ll stay there.

As of April 2023, at least 34 out of 50 states have announced or enacted bans on state government agencies, employees, and contractors using TikTok on government-issued devices. State bans only affect government employees and do not prohibit civilians from having or using the app on their personal devices.
