CAN WE KICK IT?

May 28 | 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm

USA | 1h 32m | WORLD PREMIERE

Can We Kick It? is a feature documentary exploring the disconnect between Black communities in the United States and the world’s most popular sport “soccer”. Through the voices of coaches, players, and community builders, the film examines how access, infrastructure, and perception have shaped who participates in the game and who is left out. Blending cultural context with lived experience, the story looks beyond the field to uncover the systemic and social factors influencing visibility and pathways into the sport. As the United States moves toward World Cup 2026, the film asks a timely question: what would it take to build a soccer culture that truly reflects the communities around it?

The Sight Unseen, The Sight Unseen

USA | 40m |

May 28, 2026 | 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm

The Sight Unseen is a hybrid film revisiting the miraculous events of 1971 in the Bronx, when six-year-old Sharon Wilson discovered a glowing cross in her apartment bathroom window—a phenomenon that drew crowds from across the community and became a moment of collective awe and curiosity. Now, more than five decades later, Sharon reflects on her vivid memories, interwoven with the reporting of Amsterdam News journalist Melvin Tapley, who documented the story at the time. Through reenactments, archival research, and Sharon’s voice, the film constructs an evocative portrait of faith and uncertainty, illuminating how extraordinary histories survive even as those who lived them pass on.

  • FOOTPRINTS OF THE FORGOTTEN 14
  • May 30, 2026 | 2:00 pm
  • USA |38m | WORLD PREMIERE

“Footprints of the Forgotten 14” is a student-led historical documentary and multimedia exhibition that restores the stories of fourteen forgotten Black soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary War during the pivotal Battles of Trenton and Princeton. Through original archival research, storytelling, and visual art, students from Foundation Academies’ Black Student Union uncover the lives, sacrifices, and legacy of these men—many of whom marched barefoot, fought for a nation that denied them freedom, and were later erased from traditional historical narratives.

Combining documentary filmmaking, AI-generated soldier monologues, and portrait artwork inspired by JET magazine covers, the project brings these Revolutionary War patriots back into public memory. “Footprints of the Forgotten 14”  not only reclaims overlooked history but also empowers a new generation of students to become historians, storytellers, and guardians of truth as we celebrate the 100th year of Black History Month and as the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
